Newness- #AtoZChallenge

“Wow! I’m so excited to get my hands on the new phone I just ordered!!”

Few months later:

“Nah! This phone is just okay. I’m waiting for the new phone that’s gonna release in the market next month. It’s got a bigger screen with better front camera for my selfies!”

Obsession with newness is nothing strange. It is human tendency to be amused, anticipate and show eagerness on anything new. The enthusiasm when encountered with new things or new places or anything new is highly usual. In a fast paced world, where ‘next’ versions of everything never stop emerging, we have the privilege of always looking forward for something better. It’s fascinating to watch every new innovative invention make our life easier. But how long does the enthusiasm from something new last? Few months? A year? Newness fades.

It is acceptable to lose excitement on materialistic things. But our obsession for ‘something better’ ended up reflecting in our relationships as well. The excitement during early years of marriage hardly continues for the rest of our lives. When it comes to the current generation, the excitement lasts for just few months. Their tendency to expect better from everything is a threat.

It is pathetic to realize that young couples feel that their love is lost with time. Love is never lost. It will continue to be there. But people fail to recognize it in everyday gestures. Preparing breakfast for their partner during early days of marriage makes them go gaga over each other. But the very same act after several years of marriage is perceived more as a duty than as a way of showering affection. Failing to acknowledge love in small gestures fades newness in relationships.

Sometimes we need to get accustomed to using the same old phone. May be atleast then, we’ll give a second thought about relationships!

  1. My husband calls this “the shiny”, and he usually uses it to describe how people will hype the hell out of a movie that’s currently in theaters, but once the personal copy release comes out suddenly the reviews drop dramatically and it’s not that great anymore.

I definitely agree with what you said about little acts of love though. It’s easy to think things like, “He/she doesn’t appreciate me at all!” while accidentally ignoring last night’s back rub, how the trash is always taken out before you can even notice it, or how the sheets were freshly washed right before you can home from a business trip. You have to take note of all the little things. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Exactly! Little things are big things! It only requires the right way of seeing it. What if the trash is not taken out and the sheets are not washed, the other person ends up living in a mess. A healthy and clean environment is required to make life less miserable. These acts are not noticed unless they actually what difference it makes ๐Ÿ˜Š I like the way your husband calls it, “the shiny”. It’s so true! Thank you so much for reading and dropping your valuable thoughts. Means so much to me! ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. But but…new is shiny…BNIB….shiny…hands rubbing together…shiny.

Well, to a consumer society that is sold on advertising. Never quite sure why my new washing machine thinks it should have access to my wifi though…it suffered a serious case of ACCESS DENIED. New boiler this week too…so once again you have this psychic connection clearly subliminal prompts are flying your way this week.

One new thing that should not get old though is new friends. Well, obviously they do get old owing to this foul beast called TIME…but new friends should stay and not be cast asunder when new new friends appear…. An aged friend of mine who has released a book around his hobby on writing to popstars berating them on lyrical issues started several years ago with a small following….it has grown to thousands but in true style we are now labelled as the originals…the once new…really old friends that were there at the onset… Maybe a generation thing….if it’s not broke keep it. Unshiny works fine…less waste…

New is a deep topic considering it is but three letters in length…I think it is an acronym though

    Never Ending Waste

‘Tis but my opinion mind…..another great post my new friend ๐Ÿ™ƒ

    1. Loved your acronym! It’s so apt. It is definitely a generation thing. Yes, friendship and relationship should be treated carefully irrespective of new or old , because they are fragile. New is shiny, but how long does the shine last?
And do you think it is really psychic connection? Or it’s your mere talent to correlate so accurately? Nevertheless, always appears to be a coincidence, which is nice! ๐Ÿ˜‡
Thank you for your valuable comments and for making me to keep going through the challenge! ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ™‚

      1. It was a spontaneous acronym epiphany moment ! It so fitted with your post about shiny new things. Friends and relationship should always be works in progress…evolving and two way processes. Making time when time seems full. New is the beginning…like a book that starts and just keeps flowing taking the reader on a journey…acronyms to metaphors…

Bit of both methinks…I can certainly connect with your posts and that is really cool ๐Ÿ˜‡

      2. I write..allegedly…one thinks in an imaginary world most of the time…filled with strange associations… I do hope you don’t mind me rambling about things your posts make me think of…I do go off topic now and then…it’s just so not mindful.. ๐Ÿค”

      3. One tries….but the overthinker has been liberated since blogging began….all those years and thinks with no outlet and boom….you drop into an A to Z challenge where good posts just open the doors for the wordmongers to go all….well insightful… I like that though…camouflaged with humour….might be a good book title that ๐Ÿค”

      4. In my humble opinion everyone is still learning. The moment anyone thinks they know it all is the moment motivation starts to wane and the imagination freezes over. An expert is merely someone who has more experience in a subject than us. At least that’s my outlook ๐Ÿ˜

      5. Not always….nobody is ever 100% right ever….especially not me…I just say things convincingly ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Actually, I people watch and never stick to one news channel but look at other countries to get their angle too. Same in all m points of view…listen to both sides of a debate and then make up your own mind. Never let anyone tell you what to think….especially politicians ๐Ÿ˜œ

But spot on….a good ‘expert’ continually learns…a bad one assumes….

  3. There is something fresh and pure about newness. I can’t help but admit that fact but there is also great beauty and presence and importance in doing a bit of DIY and sprucing up the not so new. If anything it encourages creativity which is not so unusual as people who make new things for us to consume are usually based on older models. Oh the irony!
